The Department of Social Welfare and Development has rescued a six-year-old boy and a four-year-old girl who were physically abused by their father as shown in a cellphone video that has since gone viral, GMA News "24 Oras" reported on Monday.

DSWD-Muntinlupa assistant department head Teresita Navarro said that the person who uploaded the video reached out to the agency.

"Alam mo noong chinat ko siya [video uploader], ang sinasabi lang niya, naaawa siya sa mga bata. Wala siyang sinabi na kung anuman gusto niya mangyari. Basta sinabi niya kawawa ang bata. Kailangan tulungan natin," she said.

In the video, the man repeatedly hit the two kids in different parts of their bodies despite the young ones' cries for him to stop.

But he told the young boy, "Tumahan ka, susuntukin ko mukha mo!"

The older man even ruthlessly kicked the boy. At one point, he shouted, "Gusto mo patayin na kita?"

After seeing the video, the social workers rescued the children. The father, however, was not around when the DSWD took them.

GMA News was able to interview the grandmother of the children.

She said that the father of the children has a problem with drug addiction. She also confirmed that the father, who has been separated from his wife, has been hurting her grandchildren for some time now.

"Masakit po sa kalooban ko na mangyari iyan. Kasi mahal ko rin po ang mga apo ko na iyan," she said.

When asked if the kids can stay with their grandmother, Muntinlupa Social Service Department head Annalyn Mercado said, "Hindi pa rin pwede kay lola kasi may access ang tatay sa lola. Safe ba ang mga bata sa lola? Definitely not."
